Fashion amuses me.

It really does :). There's just so much craziness and focus on how we protect ourselves from the elements! Well, I guess there are fashion crazinesses in other areas besides clothing too. In my opinion it's all crazy.

In fact, the initial prompter for this post, is not clothing at all; it's a backpack. It used to be brown and blue hibiscus, or brown and pink--but just today I've seen two brown, blue and pink *shiny* brown backpacks. Apparently shiny is 'in' now. :) It just amused me to see a new twist on an already odd theme. My mom is still of the opinion that brown is fairly unfashionable in many contexts--because it was when she was most immersed in fashion. I have to admit that some of the combinations I still find a little strange.

Really so many things are funny. And I personally have become acclimated to many of them--I remember when I said that bell bottom/flared jeans looked ridiculous! And then one of my best friends got a pair of flared jean overalls. And then I started to adjust my schema, and make some concessions :). I decided--well, a little bit is okay. And then I fully came around to the opinion and then defended it [insert word here...courageously? i don't know]. I claimed and so then believed that I actually preferred to have the extra fabric swishing around my ankles.

That same reason is why I like to put on pj pants after church under my skirt--because I like the extra fabric contact with my legs---although that particular fashion has not yet been gone mainstream--I have no idea why! ;)

In any event, there were a few other things like that with which I expressly noticed a complete change of opinion. Skinny jeans was another of them. And then another of my best friends had a similar mindset change and now loves them. And then I was home over the break at a thrift shop, and I put on a pair of grey skinny-ish jeans. I kinda hemmed and hawed, saying they were weird, but my mom said they looked fine! And hey! they fit--so really, why not get them? Perhaps it was because that is how she is used to jeans--with the tapered leg. In any event, I now own a pair of skinny jeans. Crazy, eh?

(and really--if I'd known you could wear skinny jeans with high heels that had bows--then really, I totally would've been on board a long time ago ;) :P ) (pic. from hot topic)

The long and the short of this is that, unless it's immodest and therefore an outright no, I should stop declaring any fashion off-limits. Who knows, maybe in a month or a year, I'll be wearing it too!

Ha! I put on sweats or pajamas under MY skirts after church too!! After taking off nylons or pants or something- and then add hugely thick socks and slippers- mmmm :) Happy. Sometimes I think it's just a reversion back to that prenatal existence where everything was cozy, warm and squished together- for some reason, I still like the feeling. :) Thus I love wearing socks and sweats to bed. Mmmmm. Cozy and warm. That's the way I like it! So funny :)

I like your observations! And now I heard the back story about the bell bottom overalls and your aversion to fashion, so that context makes reading this even better. Also--I think the word you're looking for (instead of "courageously") may be "vehemently." I don't know--try it on for size.
