The open-air museum in Molfsee is definitely worth a visit. It is compiled of houses found all over Schleswig-Holstein that were deconstructed, transported and then reconstructed here. (That huge log is what they used to swivel the windmill to get the best wind..intense!)
Typical of northern Germany is thatch and brick (not necessarily together, but, in this case, they are)
This one was nothing but roof! The middle has a fairly typical roof and fancy brickwork. And the last one..well, I'm imitating the house. In comparison it looked all..scrunched up (or hot and bothered? who knows :) )
We even saw some people replacing the thatch on a building. This thatch was getting a chainsaw trim :)
We saw old toys (and were able to try some out--not as easy as they may look..unless you've ever tried them, in which case, you know they're difficult :) ) At first we tried holding on to the tops..and though we got better....
We later learned that holding your arms down by your sides is more stable :)
HUG ATTACK! :)
We got to see the baker forming loaves and cakes to bake in his large stone oven (and then we came back to taste them later--yum!)
We rode in the little museum train (that is driving behind our family picture...).
There were little ships to swing in (did L's face turn into a dwarf head?)
and a carousel.
There was also peacock who was happy to show off :)
(Doesn't he have a funky behind? We were impressed at the mechanics involved in getting that tail vertical!)
And there were lovely doors as well :)
Peek-a-boo!
