The Book of Mormon -- why do I love it?

Today, on Mother's Day, I taught a lesson in church about the Book of Mormon. (To learn more about what it is, go to my post here.)

And it fits, because my mom taught me to love the Book of Mormon and to love God and Jesus Christ.
One of the parts of the lesson talked about how the Book of Mormon testifies of Jesus Christ and brings us closer to God. And that's mainly why I love this book! It gives us a powerful testimony of Jesus Christ--what his teachings are, how we are blessed if we follow what he has taught, etc.

One of the prophets, Nephi (we usually pronounce his name knee-fi (fi rhyming with sky)), said in 2nd Nephi:
  • "And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins." (2 Nephi 25:26)

Christ has made it possible for us to repent--because he suffered, died and was resurrected for us. That is amazing!

And the Book of Mormon also helps me feel God's love for me.

President Benson, the 13th prophet of our church, said, "Is there not something deep in our hearts that longs to draw nearer to God, to be more like Him in our daily walk, to feel His presence with us constantly? If so, then the Book of Mormon will help us do so more than any other book."

I guess it's hard to describe...but I feel the Holy Spirit when I read the Book of Mormon. One of my favorite verses, found in the short book of Omni, says:
  • "And now, my beloved brethren, I would that ye should come unto Christ, who is the Holy One of Israel, and partake of his salvation, and the power of his redemption. Yea, come unto him, and offer your whole souls as an offering unto him, and continue in fasting and praying, and endure to the end; and as the Lord liveth ye will be saved." (Omni 1:26)
I want to come unto Christ and be saved. Life isn't always easy--certainly not-- but following Christ's example helps me. I feel strengthened. I feel loved. I feel peace. I feel closer to God.
