Last week we had a lively fiesta as a ward party to celebrate the Spanish-speaking members of our congregation. We had a small program where F was the Master of Ceremonies. He explained briefly how the church in South America was introduced by 3 German families. 3 Latter-day Saint families moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina and shared the gospel with people they met. They contacted church headquarters and asked for missionaries to be sent down to teach and baptize their friends. On Christmas Day in 1925 South America was dedicated for the preaching of the gospel of Jesus Christ. It is fascinating to consider that the Germans were instrumental in bringing the church to those in South America :) Wunderbar!F and I also sang with others a song in Spanish and German, a woman shared her experiences living in Peru, F taught some Spanish, a Chilean girl sang a song and we learned some Latin dancing.
Some members of the congregation had cooked some Brazilian, Peruvian and Chilean food. It was all delicious! We were also really pleased how many people came and danced with us. Hooray for dancing, fun music and delicious food!
