We wanted to go to church while we were in Italy and one of the nearest congregations was in Pisa--excellent! We decided to go there and then take a look at that tower after church. My Dad and F understood quite a bit with their Spanish, but most of the Italian just washed over me like the Mediterranean waves :) I'm sure the Italian left some spiritual impact, but mostly it just felt pleasant, if somewhat linguistic-comprehensionally soggy :)
After church we walked into the city. I was fascinated by the fauna--and while smelling some roses, a woman came out of the house and used my newly acquired Italian word: Belle, belissimo!
She started speaking to us in Italian--we just smiled confusedly. She tried to break off a stem and when that didn't work she motioned cutting and that we should wait. She came back with scissors and cut off three! bunches of the beautiful little fragrant roses. I wandered through all of Pisa with them--Pisa smelled wonderful from my point of view :)
The plaza with the Tower was beautiful! We found the other buildings and the architectural details actually more fascinating (although that poor thing really did look ready to tip over...)
We wandered the city, away from the tourists and discovered some charming little areas.
F was our navigator, using a borrowed GPS in walking-mode so that we didn't get too lost :)
The sign looked angry...
And here are the little Mediterranean beach balls I mentioned.
Once again you will see how I love the macro setting :)
