Recipe for Apple Cake (Apfelkuchen)

I have made Apfelkuchen twice in as many weeks. The most recent occasion was for the potluck lunch after church this past Sunday.

I essentially used this recipe, but here is the translated version. My only change was using 1/3 whole wheat flour instead of just white.
What is left of the second batch.
Usually I make even more changes (such as substituting applesauce for some of the fat or just reducing the sugar) in an attempt to make it more 'healthy'...there are certain who think that, when you're going to make dessert, then go ahead and make dessert! Leave the *healthiness* for other dishes...but this tendency I have inherited from my mother (even if I'm not nearly as good at or as experienced at it as she.. :) )

eggs
250 gsugar
125 gbutter
100 mlmilk
300 gflour (200g white, 100g whole wheat)
1 Tbspbaking powder
5-6 med.apples (I used several kinds)
cinnamon
sugar
 optional:slivered almonds

Mix eggs and sugar together. Slice the apples. Warm milk and butter on the stove until butter is melted. While hot, add to the egg-sugar-mixture. Stir in flour and baking powder. Lay out parchment paper on the cookie sheet and pour on the batter. Lay the apple slices into the batter. Sprinkle sugar, cinnamon and slivered almonds on top. (They suggested sprinkling after baked and cooled..but it worked out fine before baking.)

Bake for 25 - 30 Min. at ca. 200° C (390-400°F).

Enjoy! Lasst es euch schmecken!
