Another Hair Update // Reflection on 2016's Monthly Goals

In December 2015 I decided to have monthly goals in the new year -- something I would try to do daily, but not stress too much about. This 'something' would change every month. Impressively I managed to remember and stay with it fairly well through July.

I sometimes remembered more often, sometimes less, but after that I often forgot that I even had such goals -- and when I did remember, I wasn't in a state to look up what the goal of the month was...I liked the Service Advent Calender (the LightTheWorld initiative from the church), but I also didn't manage to remember that very well either.

However, I feel pleased with what I did accomplish and the new year will likely bring new + surprising things.

We've had some interesting eventful things happen this past year, including me cutting off all my hair (mostly, just for fun + partly, to donate my hair) + F finishing his Master's, starting his Doctor's + starting work at my school as well.

Here are some highlights from last year:
January: daily tree drawings

February: daily poetry
Time
The clock in the kitchen is quite often slow
No matter how often you right it
It slips and it dallies till you're ready to go
If you're wanting the bus--have you missed it?
The hands march around, each at their own pace
Plastic vegetables lining the frame
The longest would win if it were a race
Far slower the shortest hand's game
The broccoli sits at half past eleven
The pepper at quarter to three
The tomato lies at half past seven
At half past twelve, the peas
The clock was a gift on our wedding day
It has hung internationally
It got cracked in the move, but it ticks night and day
Allbeit not punctually
March: daily pictures of my junk piles (erm...)
April: daily tangles,  based on the Zentangle® Method
May: um...I think I tried to do yoga daily here...didn't get very far, but here's a fun photo from my visit to Spain! (And I've now been practicing weekly since November :) )
June: daily hairdos
July: daily photos of receding baldness (and On Beyond Zebra! (yay, Dr. Suess!), I mean -- on beyond July -- in fact up until now, (Sunday, Jan. 29th) Day 194!) Here's a compilation video:
August's trying new recipes sadly didn't work, nor did learning new songs, but c'est la vie :)

Some things that I didn't manage from last year's goals + some I enjoyed some others I'd like to try are:
  • writing poetry
  • 5 min/day writing on various topics
  • trying new recipes (or even just cooking regularly -- yesterday I cooked 2/3 of the meals! (And...I don't remember the last time that happened..so I need to get on that!)
  • practicing an instrument daily (other than recorder -- because I do that every day with my students, so it doesn't count :) --violin or piano)
We'll see what I end up doing. Hope you have a wonderful, fulfilling year!
Stay snazzy + watch many sunsets!
