In the 3rd grade,
we've been learning about how houses used to be built (+ a bit of how they're built today) -- with digging a foundation, using bricks and mortar, thatching, etc.
As
part of this unit, the children were given the assignment to build a house
model at home. We had talked about different types of dwellings + they were given the direction to mostly use nature materials -- other than that, they had free reign :) On Wednesday we had a little exhibit; each of the children
presented in the class and we invited some of the other elementary classes to
come and have a look at our houses.
I even made a little
house :) All of my little building-fairy-houses dreams as a child coming true
;) (I also remember having built a little mill or something as an elementray
school student..I can't quite remember what grade, but very possibly 3rd -- I mostly
remember some procrastination + some hot gluing of straw for the roof? Or was
that for the little well? )
In any event, I used sticks, wire, moss + leaves (incl. woven daffodil leaves) and made
an A-frame house (funny memory -- I remember referring to a skirt as having an
A-frame...only to be reminded that skirts are often referred to as having an A-line...unless this is your skirt :) )
