Let's start with the most important thing: Our Theta has been born, is healthy and we love him dearly!
Now, after a brief side note, we can back up a bit for some more details:
First, the side note: **In order to afford our Theta (i.e. Tiny Human -- see this post for the development of the nickname) some autonomy when he gets older, we will continue to refer to him thusly in the interwebs. He has some wonderful names, but we'd rather they not get bandied about here. We will share some photos, but we'd like your help in only referring to him as "Theta". Thank you!**
Our sweet little Theta is already over a month old! And this month has been great. I'm so grateful that my mom was here to help (until a few days ago; now my dad's here to take a shift :) ). Thanks to her clean laundry kept *magically* appearing, mending kept getting done without me touching it and all sorts of wonderful things! Thankfully F also has semester break and so he is home as well + can take turns changing diapers, bathing Theta + taking him so I can sleep another for another hour :) (+ I can't really imagine how many mothers manage with just 2 hands instead of 6...)
Now to back up a bit: Theta at birth. Even though some of you may be thinking he already looks several months old, it helps that he stayed in utero for quite a while AND he was just quite a large baby at birth -- 4.350 g (9 lbs, 9 oz), 56 cm (22 in) long, with a head circumference of 38 cm (15 in).
We found charts comparing these facts and, even factoring in his gestational age, he's a large baby *and* has a HB (humungous bighead (yay, Harry Potter)) like yours truly ;). But luckily he's a well-proportioned baby and just happens to have quite the head (haha) start on many other babies as far as growth goes.
We had thought he was just taking his sweet time about coming, but it turns out, my body needed a major hint to start labor. As it was Theta arrived in the early morning of September 2nd (1:02 am, at 41+1). Yes, estimated due date is just an estimate + apparently +/- 10 days is perfectly normal, but we're glad we didn't have to wait any longer.
Details about the birth will follow, but for now, to summarize our current state: We are healthy + happy, doing a lot of baby-gazing + often even getting a fair amount of sleep (p.s. Naps are wonderful)!
Here are some of the photos we've been taking of our dear little one. He makes adorable faces (+ sounds -- like squeaking!)
and he's breastfeeding (+ therefore also growing) like a champ! (We will also make a collection of photos in some folder somewhere + share the link for further Theta enjoyment.)
And now 2 more, pre-birth:
and post-birth:
A happy family of 3! (despite appearances, Theta is often happy too!)
