Potsdam

While my mom was here, we took a road trip to the American consulate in Berlin to file a "consular report of birth abroad" and apply for Theta's passport. We got to stay with F's great-aunt, who lives southeast of Berlin and heard fascinating stories about life in the DDR (former East Germany, during the Cold War) (=it wasn't all bad! In fact there were lots of good things too!).

Then on the way home we traveled via Potsdam and stopped at the famous palace(s) of Sanssouci. On the grounds were enormous parks, several palaces, gardens, sculptures --- all sorts of amazing things!
Do all German guards practice babywearing? ;)
Here's our trusty troop!
Another addition to the tradition of posing as statues :)
F held Theta up to this statue, saying this is kind of like me ready for breastfeeding :)
This was one(!) of the palaces
And a nice little green gazebo in the green...very Romantic (as in the Romantic period in art, the awe of the wildness of nature -- there have been amazing German Romantic artists and Germans are still very Romantic :) )
Somehow there was a fish (or even a Magicarp (i.e. a pokémon :) )?) coming out of the tree!
Here we reflected on the changability of beauty standards + ideal sizes ;)
Ta da! Macro with the famous terraced gardens in the background.
Another of those gazebos
Mom, Theta + I

p.s. Our Theta is now an American AND a German citizen. (At some point we may add Canadian to the list, but their requirements were impressively complicated (+ archaic?)!)
