So, on a last-minute field trip before school started we skipped over to the little town of Schleswig. Yes, that is the town for which Schleswig-Holstein gets half of its name! It's still fairly small, but it has the state court and was the seat of the Danish king in German Denmark, thereby playing an important role in northern German (and Danish) history.
The town itself isn't all that visually impressive except for its being on the water (which is impressive)
AND its super awesome cathedral! Gorgeous!
You know the complaint "kids these days!"? Well, it looks like "these days" have been going on for a while..because kids at least as far back as 1894 were graffiting their names onto the walls in the tower...(the only difference is that kids back then had better handwriting ;) )
This one would appear to have a name from 1726(!) in the upper right.
And then the windows
+ the ceilings!
+ the doors :) Lovely :)
+ the altar. Wow. I was jaw-dropping floored when I saw it.
Then there was an older section + things got amusing :)
Not only were things tilting but they've got some funky human-beasts
as well as...turkeys.
These turkeys were in fact cause for the National Socialists (Nazis) to claim that America was actually discovered much earlier by the Vikings (and that they, as Germanic descendants were superior). Cuz turkeys are only found in America. ....Turns out that the art restorer was just having a little fun :)
Here's a dropbox link for even more examples of all of the aforementioned categories :).
And for some more amusement around Schleswig:
trash cans called "Waste worshiper" + "Trash gobbler-upper" respectively,
a boat named "Chicken",
and another boat named Jesus in code :)
a maternity clothing store called "Round as a ball",
a tree growing out of a chimney
and some romantic statues :)

| In typical northern German style, all made of brick! |
| See Ad. Schmidt up there from Danzig |
