Visit to the US: Utah, Part 2: Thanksgiving Point

I had heard about the amazing statues of Christ at Thanksgiving Point and I was thrilled that we got to go with F's sister C and her husband's family. Thank you so much for letting us come with you!
Interesting contrast between the textures of the skin and clothing of the perfect Christ and one-not-yet-perfected -- i.e. us
They are part of the larger Ashton Gardens.
The specific exhibit is called thed "Light of the World Garden" by the sculptor Angela Johnson.
Here are some highlights but I encourage you to go and see them in person :) Amazing!

A nice merry-go-round before we got to the Light of the World Garden.
Once we got there, little E decided she was ready to roam! She always seemed one step ahead of us, although she did let F put a second pair of shoes on her and then eventually she allowed herself to be picked up...but as you can imagine, not for long :) She's a go-getter!
I was so impressed with the hair detail on this statue-- gorgeous!
Mmm :) Such a precious quiet little moment. I'm sure Christ had such moments, we just don't often think about them.
I can't quite remember if this was Christ appearing to Mary after his resurrection? I think so...
This next one was impressive -- such majestic waves and then Christ -- Lord of All -- walking on them. I am so grateful for Christ's love and majesty. Here are a few verses from 1 John 4 that I particularly like -- and am awed by:

  • 7 Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. ...
  • 10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
(propitiate (verb) - to gain or regain the favor or goodwill of (Webster's Online Dictionary)

There was also a Secret Garden -- how could I resist? (I've read the book, watched 3 or 4 film adaptations, seen the musical several times and have the music memorized... :) )
Back when we got married, my family helped a TON in all sorts of ways -- one of those was organizing the flowers. We had chosen purple as our 'color'
See? Purple...apparently it was hilarious :D + purple in my hair!
and so while we would be driving around my Grandma's and aunts' neighborhoods we would scout out neighbors with purple flowers in their garden. One woman in particular contributed very generously from her garden :) Anyway, we got so that our eyes were especially atuned to *purple* flowers -- even after the wedding. Here are some too:
And here's a giant red flower, the likes of which I thought only existed on advertisements for Hawaii :)
How about some yoga in low, medium and high? ;)
And here was an Italian garden whose symmetrical architecture just seemed to invite such silliness :)
How about some nice decorative--cabbage? Yup! Who knew it could be more than just a staple in the northern European diet, but also a garden decoration!
Then the sudden downpour convinced us with lovely hilarity that we were done with our garden tour. We ran laughing through the rain back to the entrance.
Look how the raindrops dance on the water!
We had an all-around delightful visit.
