Poem: Dread

Dread
Sometimes there are things I dread
They make me want to climb in bed
—and just stay there,
cozy + warm
I’ll come to no harm
and yet they don’t get done
Ultimately it can’t help to run
It can be good to gather strength
to be ready for the width and length
of the situation.

But really: breathe in,
breathe out
Go for the win
— and again
Make the call, write the e-mail
Is it really that bad to sometimes fail?

Yes + no
It’s part of life —
Give it a go
Be ready for strife

I can imagine the worst
If it comes, I’m prepared
Perhaps comes the best
Why was I scared?

I sometimes try to analyze
But what I do not realize
or rather, I forget
is this: time flies
Either way I play it.

Am I riding the dragon
or being abducted?
Hanging by my ankle
Or flying loop-de-loops?
Ride that dragon!
It’ll sometimes breathe fire,
but keep on riding
and doing and surviving
and eventually I’ll realize:
I’m living the dream —

I’m flying!
