Poem: Winter Gems

Winter Gems

the snow falls quickly but without haste
snowflakes land on her upturned face
one clings to her lip and meets its demise
they catch in her eyelashes and she smiles

they come ever downward and still she grins
one falls on her tooth
cold for a moment--
then gone

in her dark hair they glitter
like jewels, winter gems
she smiles to herself
and at all she sees
on she walks—
eyes closed
face upturned—
enjoying the arrival of
each
gentle

flake
