Germans love their food expressions, Part 1

They also love their food (and there's definitely a lot to love! from delicious chocolate to bread to cheese and more), but I've noticed several very amusing German expressions that have to do with food.

1. There's a fairly famous one that even has T-shirts with Cookie Monster or unicorns (see this Google Search):
  • Du gehst mir tierisch auf den Keks!
(literally translated as: You go me animally on the cookie!)
= More sensically it translates as "You are really annoying me", one could argue that an implied "Cut it out! Stop it!" is also hiding in there somewhere...

2. Another fairly famous one is:
  • Jetzt haben wir den Salat
(literally: Now we have the salad)
= Or "Well now we've got this (tricky) situation" with the implied "And how are we going to deal with/get out of it?"

3. dd
  • aus dem?? Quark (Uwe Zickler bei der Rallye...)
(literally: out of the quark, which is a milk product, kinda like low-fat, thick yogurt)
=

p.s. Although I initially though I'd look to the interwebs for more, because they weren't occuring to me :), I found some sites and then didn't actually look at them, because I wanted to challenge my brain cells more. However, if you are interested then here are 2 links to sites I haven't read :)

It turns out that F + I had plenty of productive brain cells between the two of us! (So much so that this is just part 1 + there will be several more...as well as another series on animal expressions. Whee! Yay German!)
